The new Bentley Flying Spur gets sharper looks to match a more sybaritic interior.迷你倉新蒲崗 By Samuel EeADD one tastefully executed redesign to a major power upgrade and the fastest ever four-door Bentley is also the British marque's sleekest looking limousine. The new Bentley Flying Spur is lower and wider with crisp new lines and clearly defined edges, thanks to the superformed aluminium front fenders a la the Continental GT coup?m. But like the two-door Bentley, the 5.3-metre-long Flying Spur has a steel monocoque. The platform is similar to the previous car but with a wider front and rear track.Incidentally, the "Continental" suffix has been dropped and the big saloon is now referred to simply as the Flying Spur.Under the hood, the familiar twin-turbo W12 engine continues to drive all four wheels but instead of through the old six-speeder, there is a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The W12 is a 12-cylinder unit in a W configuration and a new engine management system raises output to 625 horses (up 25 hp) and 800 Newton-metres of torque (plus 50 Nm). This 14 per cent improvement in the power-to-weight ratio allows the 2,475 kg (down 50 kg) car to race from zero to 100 kmh in just 4.6 seconds. But the luxury limousine promises to remain as surefooted as ever. The permanent all-wheel-drive has a standard torque split of 40:60 between the front and rear axles, but depending on road conditions, it can send as much as 85 per cent of the torque to the rear wheels or 65 per cent to the front for optimum grip.Inside, the opulent cabin of the Flying Spur features 600 new parts, with only the sun visors, grab handles, armrests and some of the front console and controls carried over from the previous generation. It combines old world handcrafted wood and迷你倉出租leather with new-world technology and amenities. There is touchscreen infotainment for the driver and his passengers, mobile connectivity including Wi-Fi, a rear seat entertainment suite and a new hand-held touchscreen remote for those in the back seat. An eight-channel, eight-speaker sound system from Naim is optional. To better enjoy all the electronics, electrically-operated rear side blinds and a nine-litre bottle cooler for perfectly chilled drinks can also be ordered.Air suspension with continuous damping control will do its best to avoid any unforeseen beverage spills, and they complement the smoother and silkier gear changes of the ZF eight-speed autobox.Since the big Bentley is ideal as a chauffeur-driven car, it is no surprise that the Flying Spur's world launch was held in China recently. With a 3,066 mm-long wheelbase, the rear bench is a very nice place to be, especially now that passenger comfort is enhanced by a quieter cabin.Bentley's focus on acoustic isolation of the cabin from external noise inputs included the development and use of lightweight acoustic underfloor panels to minimise road noise, aerodynamically optimised insulating sections for the underfloor of the car, side glazing, front and rear acoustic glass windscreens, redesigned doors with additional insulation to the outer skin, and even bigger rear mufflers to reduce exhaust noise by 12 decibels. You could say the Bentley Flying Spur is all about quiet luxury.samuelee@sph.com.sgSPECSBentley Flying Spur W12Engine 5,998cc W12 turbochargedTransmission 8-speed automaticMax power 625 hp @ 6,000 rpmMax torque 800 Nm @ 2,000 rpm0-100 kmh 4.6 secsTop speed 320 kmhCO2 emissions 343 g/kmAverage OMV $220,000Price from $850,000 (w/o COE)Distributor Wearnes AutomotiveTel 6473 7755儲存倉
