Source: The Porterville Recorder, Calif.迷你倉最平Oct. 23--The recent government shutdown has impacted more than just our area's income from tourists, it's also affected our relationship with foreigners who spends hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to visit our national parks and forests, county supervisors were told Tuesday."The shutdown caused bad relations and ill will with foreign visitors," Board of Supervisor member Allen Ishida said at Tuesday's board meeting.Ishida reported on the damage the shutdown has caused to the area, including Three Rivers which has lost a "substantial amount of money" in tourist dollars. Visitors from other countries plan their vacations months, if not years, in advance and were not pleased to arrive, only to be turned away because of the closure to Sequoia National Park due to the shutdown."The saving grace was we were able to shuttle them to Balch Park and Mountain Home State Forest," he said.In other business:- Approved proceeding with the 20 parcels on Reservation Road, albeit with some concerns. "The last time the wells were tested was 2006?" Board Member Mike 迷你倉nnis asked. "That's a concern for me, not only for the quality of water, but also the quantity." The wells will be tested again for nitrate levels when the project resumes. The Board approved the request to proceed, but asked to bring the topic back for discussion of future projects and water concerns for small subdivision building- Ennis reported a decision on allowing Success Dam to hold more water this sprig has been postponed until January. Currently, according to Ennis, the lake is at 4,000 feet "the lowest it's been since they built the dam."- Ishida reported on a State program that has 3D tracking of ground water that will allow viewing of water issues, such as high nitrates, in a 3D format- Approved request for the Sheriff's Department to submit SB 1022 for a grant that will help fund repairing old and outdated jails- Adopted a resolution proclaiming the week of October 23-31 as "Red Ribbon Week"Copyright: ___ (c)2013 The Porterville Recorder (Porterville, Calif.)
